DepEd Sorsogon tops implementation of Brigada Eskwela in Bicol

SORSOGON CITY, — The Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Sorsogon is the leading implementer of the National Schools Maintenance Week popularly known as “Brigada Eskwela” in the Bicol 

Based on the accomplishment report disclosed by the DepEd Bicol Regional office, the DepEd Sorsogon Division office was able to mobilize 140,834 multi- sectoral volunteers and generated resources equivalent to P55,589,105.00 for the weeklong implementation of Brigada Eskwela last year.

DepEd Bicol Brigada Eskwela Coordinator Casiano Perdigones confirmed that DepEd Bicol was able to tap a total of 483,550 volunteers and gathered resources amounting to 211,136,724.21 from donations and materials for Brigada Eskwela 2014 regionwide.

Meanwhile, Zeny Lastimoza of Adopt-A-School Program National Secretariat from DepEd Central Office also revealed during the Brigada Eskwela Regional kick-off held last week at Pilar II Central School in Pilar, Sorsogon that 8.2 million volunteers and P3.2 billion worth of resources were generated in the entire country for last year’s implementation of Brigada Eskwela 2014.

DepEd Bicol Regional Director Ramon Fiel Abcede also took the opportunity during the event to express his appreciation to Educo, a non-government organization formerly known as Intervida for its support to DepEd by extending P18.6 million worth of construction materials for school-beneficiaries in Sorsogon, Camarines Sur and Albay.

“Brigada Eskwela is already a DepEd culture, it is a culture of volunteerism or Bayanihan,” DepEd Sorsogon Schools Division Superintendent Danilo Despi told the crowd during the event. “We mean business in Brigada Eskwela,” Despi added.

There are two schools under the DepEd Sorsogon which were declared as national awardees for Brigada Eskwela last year. These are Salvacion High School in Pilar, and Irosin Central School, in Irosin.

Meanwhile, the Division of Camarines Sur placed second to Sorsogon for the most number of Brigada Eskwela 2014 volunteers with 79,948, followed by Camarines Norte in third place with 60,169, Albay in fourth place with 45,281, and Legazpi City in fifth place with 25, 990 volunteers.

Naga City came in sixth spot with 23,787 volunteers, Masbate in seventh with 23,054, Iriga City in eighth with 22,285, Catanduanes in ninth with 20,612, Ligao City in tenth with 18,706, Sorsogon City in 11th spot with 9,577, Tabaco City in 12th with 8,721 and Masbate City on 13th place with 4,586 volunteers.

The Division of Camarines Norte meanwhile placed second to Sorsogon for most resources or donations generated amounting to P50,736,754.79, followed by Ligao City in third place with P27,198,577.69, Albay in fourth spot with P22,266,755.01, and Iriga City in fifth place with P22,127,500.

Camarines Sur landed on sixth place with P15,589,105, followed by Catanduanes in seventh with P4,837,971, Naga City in eighthplace with P4,753,696.87, Legazpi City in ninth with P3,716,245, Tabaco City in tenth with P1,732,270.75, Sorsogon City in 11th with P1,566,328.10, Masbate in 12th with 900,000 and Masbate City in 13th spot with P559,875 total resources solicited.
